Copies of outgoing correspondence, primarily to Governor, Fund Commissioners and engineers and commissioners for each district, concern appointments of various employees (e.g., engineers, secretary to Board, surveryor); survey, location and construction of railroads and river improvements; purchases of land for projects; and instructions to engineers. Also included are reports to House of Representatives on projects show3ing number of employees, progress of work at each site and purchase of locomotives.

The Board of Fund Commissioners was created by l. 1837, p. 121. Board contracted for and negotiated all loans authorized by General Assembly for internal improvements and signed and executed all bonds or stock certificates issued for such loans. Monies received from proceeds of loans were deposited at State Bank of Illinois and Bank of Illinois at Shawneetown.
